John A. Vuong, Wine Director John A. Vuong brings a polished pedigree in the wine and culinary fields to his new role as wine director at Ame restaurant. In this position, his responsibilities include managing Ame's wine list of hand-crafted vintages from an international roster of small producers, including selections from France, Germany, Austria, Italy and the United States, as well as managing the restaurant's sake program, which features sake from small regional producers in Japan, to staff training and education. Most recently, Vuong held the position of sommelier at the Michelin-starred Restaurant Gary Danko in San Francisco, where he expertly navigated a wine selection of more than 1,800 labels and wine pairings. Prior to joining Gary Danko, Vuong served as wine specialist at Vinfolio, the leading source for fine wine, serving the needs of wine enthusiasts and collectors worldwide. In this capacity, Vuong lead and supervised large offsite private wine cellar inventory projects and channeled his vast knowledge of luxury wines to develop clients' private wine collections. Additional experience in business and restaurant management make for Vuong's well-rounded understanding of the wine industry. Vuong is a certified sommelier by the court of master sommeliers, a certified specialist of wine by the society of wine educators and is certified by the sommelier association of America. Additionally, Vuong is a regular panelist for Wine & Spirits Magazine and occasionally tastes for The San Francisco Chronicle. |
